The parish of Tan Loi (now Tan Phu) was established around 1900 by Catholic settlers who fled persecution during the reign of Emperor Tu Duc, with Mr. Duong Van Quyen and his family among the first to cultivate and settle the area; Mr. Giuse Manh and his wife Maria Lua built the first church, laying the foundation for the parish community; it later received pastoral care from priests in Ben Tre, and in 1905 the church was expanded and relocated to a better site; over time, under the guidance of various priests such as Fr. Giuse Nguyen Van But and Fr. Phero Nguyen Van Hien, and while being attached to Thanh Trieu parish, the community continued to grow; today, after multiple renovations, Tan Phu has become a well-established and vibrant center of faith for local parishioners.
